Vice President Joe Biden Honored with Presidential Medal of Freedom by ObamaOn Thursday, President Barack Obama rather surprised a very emotional Vice President Joe Biden by awarding him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom that is said to be the nation’s highest civilian honor, during a White House ceremony.

In the ceremony Obama said, "For your faith in your fellow Americans, for your love of country and for your lifetime of service that will endure through the generations, I'd like to ask the military aide to join us on stage. For my final time as President, I am pleased to award our nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom."

Vice President Biden who was surprised and very emotional at the time of the tribute which brought tears to his eyes, he accepted the award but also said that he did not deserve it.

Biden with a teary eye said, "This honor is not only well beyond what I deserve, but it's a reflection of the extent and generosity of your spirit." He further said, "I don't deserve this but I know it came from the President's heart."

Biden also stated that, "There is a Talmudic saying that says what comes from the heart enters the heart. Mr. President, you have crept into our heart, you and your whole family."

Prior to surprising Biden with the honorary award, President Obama delivered lengthy and colorful remarks appreciating Biden, his wife Dr. Jill Biden and his children and grandchildren.

Obama said, "This is the kind of family that built this country, that's why my family is honored to call ourselves honorary Bidens."

The President remarked that while their term to serve is almost about to end, the two will be “forever binded as a family.”

President Obama and Biden have developed quite a close friendship, which has been the inspiration of many online memes.

In the tribute on Thursday the President even joked saying, "This gives the internet one last chance to talk about our bromance."

Obama quoted the Republican senator saying, "If you can't admire Joe Biden as a person you've got a problem." He further added, "He's as good a man as God ever created."

VP Joe Biden was chocked by the entire assemblage; said he “had no inkling” it was going to happen. All he knew was that he was coming to raise a toast to all the senior staff along with the first lady and his wife Jill Biden.
