The United States administration is “100% certain in the role that Russia played” in the recent election-related hacking, stated by Mr. John Kirby who is the State Department Spokesperson on Tuesday.
He further added that “There’s no question” pertaining to what Russia did to “sow doubt and confusion, and getting involved through the cyber domain, into our electoral process.”
He said, "And that's not just an assessment by the President or by Secretary Kerry or other Cabinet officials. It's an assessment by the entire intelligence community."
President-elect Mr. Donald Trump has elicited queries regarding the assessment and suggested that he has inside information about who was involved.
On 15th December, Trump tweeted “If Russia, or some other entity, was hacking, why did the White House wait so long to act? Why did they only complain after Hillary lost?”
Three days prior to this, in another tweet he said, “Unless you catch "hackers" in the act, it is very hard to determine who was doing the hacking. Why wasn't this brought up before election?”
The tweets came post Trump’s spokesperson Sean Spicer emphasized on Monday that there was yet ‘zero evidence’ the election was in anyway swayed by hackers.
Spicer said, “Whether or not they were hacked, and [Russians] did anything, is a completely different story. The way the mainstream media is playing this up is that they had an influence in the election.” “There is zero evidence that they actually influenced the election.”
Kirby stated that it was not just the assessment of President Obama or Secretary of State John Kerry, but the entire intelligence community.
However, Kirby dismissed that opinion. He said, "The information is there, and it's rock solid. And we obviously would not have pursued the measures that we pursued without that level of certainty." "So, yes, we are a 100% certain."
