The popstar, who had launched his career with Wham! in the 1980s and had a tremendous successful career as a solo performer “passed away peacefully” on Christmas Day in Goring, Oxfordshire, according to his publicist.
Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Madonna paid their respective tributes on Monday to the British pop idol George Michael, who dies at the age of 53. He sang one of the most successful pop duos ever, with singles like “Careless Whisper” and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", prior to recreating himself as a solo artist with sexually daring lyrics and multibillion selling albums such as "Listen Without Prejudice" and “Faith”.
The British Police stated that his death was "unexplained but not suspicious". Michael Lippman, his manager said that the George has dies due to heart failure.
His former Wham! partner and old school friend Andrew Ridgeley tweeted, "Heartbroken at the loss of my beloved friend Yog (nickname). Me, his loved ones, his friends, the world of music, the world at large. 4ever loved."
Madonna tweeted saying, "Farewell My Friend. Another Great Artist leaves us."
McCartney said, "George Michael's sweet soul music will live on even after his sudden death." "Having worked with him on a number of occasions his great talent always shone through and his self-deprecating sense of humour made the experience even more pleasurable."
George Michael was greatly reckoned by fellow musicians as a songwriter and a great singer. He was a 2017 nominee for the Songwriters Hall of Fame, but was disturbed for several years by substance abuse and a hugger-mugger private life.
Still being in Wham!, Michael became the first ever Western pop act to perform in communist China, in 1985. He won hordes of fans as a teenage pin-up in the early 1980s before going solo in 1987.
He did have quite a bitter past, he was publicly came out as a homosexual when he was arrested in 1998 for engaging himself in a lewd act in a public restroom in Beverly Hills, California.
When the news of his death came out on Monday, his fans laid down candles and flowers at his home in London and Oxfordshire. One particular fan named Kavita who was outside his home in London said, "I have grown up with him - he was a songbook to the good times, the bad times. And he's brought me here today just to say thank you, George, for the music."
Elton John, who was Michael’s close friend and a fellow musician mentioned, "I have lost a beloved friend - the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist. My heart goes out to his family and all of his fans."
Michael was born with the name Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on June 25, 1963 in London to a Greek Cypriot family. Initially he played music on the London underground train system. His death arrives at the end of a year which has witnessed the heavenly abode of many popular music giants, including Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, and Prince.
